A solar project designed for Jordanian industry
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, Philadelphia Solar and Al-Shams for Specialized Energy announced the signing of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for a 135 MWp photovoltaic project under an electricity wheeling arrangement connected to Jordan’s high-voltage grid.
According to the original announcement, the project was intended to deliver approximately 318 GWh of clean electricity annually to industrial consumers. Supplying factories with electricity at preferential prices was expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Jordanian industries in domestic and export markets.
Planned location and high-voltage connection
The project was planned for the Al-Maduna area south of Amman, with a connection to the national transmission network at 400 kV. The technical design described in the announcement included bifacial PV modules and single-axis tracking to support solar energy yield.
Why the project matters
Power wheeling for industry
The proposed arrangement would transmit renewable electricity through the grid to serve participating industrial consumers.
Industrial competitiveness
The project sought to provide factories with preferentially priced electricity and support local and export-oriented production.
Advanced PV technologies
The announced design included bifacial solar modules and single-axis tracker systems.
